We are very excited to have Captains Casey and Josh join us at the 2016 Watermen’s Appreciation Day! Here is a little more information about both of them. We hope you are looking forward to meeting them as much as we are!
Casey McManus Captain/Owner, F/V Cornelia Marie
Captain Casey McManus has spent the last two decades in the commercial fishing industry. As a third generation fisherman, Casey started gillnetting with his father at just 5 years old. By 14 years old he was fishing commercially.
Casey earned his engineer’s license at 21 years old which is when he also started running commercial fishing vessels. He has had a long standing career with Trident Seafoods and has worked aboard several of their catcher vessels as well as the Billikin.
During the off season, Casey also worked as a port engineer for Trident. By the age of 29, Casey had his Master’s license and in 2013 Casey took over as the Captain of the F/VCornelia Marie. He later became part owner.
Casey has spent the last 3 years at the helm of theCornelia Marie fishing for King, Opilio and Bairdi Crab. He also runs the boat for salmon tendering in the summers. As part owner, Casey is heavily involved in all aspects of keeping the vessel fishing year round.
Josh Harris Captain/Owner, F/V Cornelia Marie
Fishing runs deep in the Harris family history. Josh’s grandfather, Grant Harris, was a commercial fisherman as was his late father, Captain Phil Harris.
Josh started fishing commercially at the young age of 10 years old. He spent his time gillnetting and started tendering when he was 15. At the age of 18 he joined the crew of the Cornelia Marie as he started his career as a crab fisherman. In 2013 Josh became co-owner of the F/V Cornelia Marie.
You can find Josh fishing for King Crab, Opilio Crab, Bairdi Crab in the winter and salmon tendering in the summers. Josh has completed his schooling for his captain’s license and is now working on taking over as a full time captain.
